WHAT IS MICROCEMENT?
Microcement is a decorative cement-based coating that may be used to give your floors and walls a one-of-a-kind look. Microcement is frequently related to industrial design and commercial construction. The precise edges, neutral tones, and seamless appearance of microcement on surfaces give a sophisticated, modern finish for the interior when utilised in residential structures.
IS MICROCEMENT VERSATILE ENOUGH?
The versatility of microcement, which gives it many functional and aesthetic advantages over other materials, is part of its beauty. Microcement materials can not only be used as a coating for a variety of surfaces, but they can also be modified to produce the required finish and colour.
Microcement, a mixture of cement, water-based resins, and mineral pigments, can be coloured in a variety of ways. Warmer tones lend themselves to a carefree summer look, while cooler shades can be employed to create an industrial feel. The microcement can be applied using a variety of methods to produce a range of surfaces, including matt, satin, and gloss.
After selecting your preferred microcement colour and finish, the material is hand-applied to floors, walls, stairwells, and countertops before being allowed to dry. The concrete can cover a broader variety of objects and areas as more microcement is added, giving it free licence to expand across every square metre of the surface. Applying cement in a few layers increases the concrete's thickness and strength as it steadily layers up over time. Microcement is thoroughly protected and waterproofed using many layers of varnish for durability.
WHAT ARE THE ADVANTAGES TO USING MICROCEMENT RATHER THAN POLISHED CONCRETE?
As a great substitute for polished concrete, microcement is also available. While both materials are durable and crack-resistant and have a similar industrial finish, polished concrete is much less adaptable than microcement. Polished concrete is applied in a layer that is thicker than microcement, which is the primary distinction between the two materials. Microcement is a significantly more versatile material for surfaces than polished concrete, offering a greater variety of colors, various treatments, and thinner layers.
WHERE CAN YOU USE MICROCEMENT IN YOUR HOME?
All throughout the house, microcement can be used as a finish because it is a material that can cover surfaces of all sizes and can also be used to cover preexisting materials. The concrete also includes certain useful components, making it a more practical solution than just a gorgeous surface. The benefit of using microcement is that it is strong enough to be used on both floors and walls, and it is also appealing in homes and offices. There are several benefits to adopting this material in the construction of your home, from microcement walls to microcement floors.
MICROCEMENT FLOORS AND WALLS
The flawless texture of the concrete mixture flooring makes microcement floors a popular alternative to tiles or wood because it gives a distinctive, industrial impression. Microcement, which has thin layers coating the surface, is a sturdy substance that is very resistant, making it ideal for floors with heavy foot traffic. A microcement floor is an extremely acceptable solution if you're thinking about putting underfloor heating in your house.
Are you unhappy with the flooring you chose for your home or are you searching for a modern update to the wood or tiles you initially put in? Microcement, when applied as a liquid, is a clever material for covering over old flooring because it glosses over a variety of surfaces with ease.
A microcement floor is a wonderfully practical solution because it can simply coat the current surface without removing the previous surface before installation and is durable, crack-resistant, and ideal for underfloor heating.
The vast majority of us often choose to cover the floors and walls in bathrooms and wetrooms with waterproof tiles. Despite having a classic appearance, microcement offers a modern substitute for tiles that might eventually look antiquated or cracked. Microcement may be placed flawlessly in small layers across a variety of surfaces, and it is durable and waterproof. Microcement would be an excellent substitute for bathroom tiles or kitchen splashbacks when applied as a thin coating to a wall.
USING MICROCEMENT PRODUCTS TO DECORATE
Microcement products can be used not only for floors and walls, but also as decorative accents. Use microcement as countertop coatings or at the tops of steps. You could even coat furniture with microcement if you applied it precisely enough. Microcement, which is resilient and crack-resistant, is particularly resistant to the usual wear and tear on these surfaces.
If the old surface that we are working with is below par to begin with, we might need to do more work on the floor (or wall) to get the results we need:
If the moisture level of the floor is excessive, a surface DPM will be used to get rid of the moisture that is preventing the Microcement from adhering. If the surface is uneven, a leveling compound application would be made to provide a smooth, working surface or "blank canvas."
After the aforementioned is finished, we may begin to apply the Micro Cement, which will be done in three trowel-applied coatings: one base coat and two final coats. allowing for drying in between coats, the surface would be softly abraded to smooth it when all coats are complete and dry (depending on temperature, wetness, etc.). At this step of the procedure, stains or designs would be added if necessary.
Following completion of all of the aforementioned steps, the floor would be vacuumed, "tagged" to remove any fine dust, and at least two coats of seal would be applied. There would be an option between gloss, satin and matt finishes.
The addition of Stains can be dramatic but glorious!
Bright colours can be used, but equally earth tones are still very attractive and often used to depict a more conservative appearance.
If only one colour is needed, that is doable, but since we strive for a natural appearance, there will still be differences in the tones of any given colour.
Where the advantages of a Microcement system are not necessary, we can also renovate and enhance your existing good-quality floors to give them an attractive, natural-looking appearance by way of polishing, staining, and resealing.
